Description

When I try using airodump-ng (/usr/local/sbin/airodump-ng -w xx ral0) it works for ~30 mins and then loses all stations one by one.

I use FreeBSD-7.0-STABLE.

My card is recognized as: ral0: <Ralink Technology RT2561S> mem 0xcffe8000-0xcffeffff irq 17 at device 10.0 on pci0

After some more experimenting I see that once stations were lost rerunning airodump-ng doesn't pick up any stations any more. Until I do 'ifconfig ral0 down ; ifconfig ral0 up' After down/up airodump works again. Until stations are lost again in ~30 mins and I need to do down/up again.

Do you have any error in kernel logs about the ral0 device?

No kernel messages messages were issues except for normal: ral0: promiscuous mode enabled

Same issue here on numerous different flavors of Linux (Debian, Gentoo, and OpenWRT) and a few different systems. Same symptoms with slightly different timings.

Sometimes I can capture all day and it works 100% fine, other days it will lose all stations and the card will have to be brought down and back up every 5 minutes.

The only kernel logs are "promiscuous mode enabled," as reported.

The latest find is on a PC Engines Alix x86 board w/ the AMD Geode Processor running OpenWRT Revision 14896 and Kernel 2.6.28.7. Aircrack version is 1.0 rc1 r1142

Forgot to mention it's with an Atheros based card (Ubiquiti w/ AR5213A Chipset)

The bugs you have in the different Linux may be due to a known bug in madwifi-ng:
